ISN-IPNA Webinar: Challenging communication in pediatric nephrology
- 5 PM CEST
Challenging communication is an integral part of caring for children with kidney disease, regardless of practice setting. While cultural, systemic, and resource contexts vary, pediatric nephrologists around the world encounter similar ethical tensions in conversations with patients and families. In this webinar, an international panel of pediatric nephrologists will share their experiences navigating difficult discussions, reflect on communication as a clinical skill and ethical act, and explore how local contexts shape global challenges. Participants will gain insight into diverse approaches to communication and ethical decision-making in pediatric nephrology.
Learning objectives:
- Describe communication as a clinical skill and procedural act, particularly in the context of delivering serious news or discussing complex care decisions.
- Compare and contrast communication strategies used by pediatric nephrologists in different healthcare systems and cultural settings.
- Reflect on the impact of local context (e.g., cultural norms, resource availability, legal frameworks) on ethical communication with patients and families.
- Apply insights from global colleagues to enhance their own approach to ethically challenging conversations in clinical practice.
